Visual Arts classes at The Fine Arts Association remain some of the most popular in the area. There is a full palette: clay, watercolor, drawing, oil and acrylic painting, ceramics and computer graphic arts. Other innovative offerings include classes in cartooning, calligraphy, new crafting techniques and screen printing. A highly talented staff of instructors is continually augmenting their curriculum to include new classes.

Please note that all visual art courses have new projects each session, therefore students who repeat a course are not repeating the same content. Each class is also designed to welcome new students to The Fine Arts Association experience! Material fees are included unless indicated otherwise. Cover-up smocks are provided for preschool art classes.

Computer Graphic Arts Classes

Did you know that FAA has a graphics arts lab? It's true! With knowledge and the use of FAA's state-of-the-art iMac™ computers, software and equipment, you can become a graphic artist! From basic introductions to the Mac, to designing your own logo for a small business, to resumes and photo restoration, FAA classes combine art and technology for both creative and functional uses.

Graphic Arts for Beginners (teens & adults) Choose one session

During this class, students acquire new skills on the Mac, including use of the InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator programs. Learn how to set up a page, add text, color, shapes and borders. Take a drawing (perhaps created by the student) and see how scanning and colorizing this artwork will take it to a whole new level. This is the perfect class for teens interested in the visual arts and technology.

Graphic Arts - Intermediate/Advanced Level (teens & adults) Choose one sessionsession
Individuals must have completed the beginner level course before enrolling in this course or must have prior instructor approval.

Know the basics of a Mac, but looking to advance your skills? Gain an understanding of the components of good design in this class. Learn how to manipulate type, add effects and find out how to form shapes and modify type. While acquiring new skills and techniques, students also work on the creation of an artistic product (project to be determined by the class).

The Creative Caterpillar - The World of Eric Carle (ages 3-5 with accompanying adult)
Does your child love Eric Carle books like "The Very Hungry Caterpillar?" Do you love the art in Carle’s books? This class combines them both! Each class begins with the reading of an Eric Carle book. Then children and adults explore the mediums, colors and styles of Carle's art.

Teen & Adult Classes

In some classes, students are expected to purchase their own tools and supplies. All ceramics classes will have a clay fee of $8 per bag, unless it is indicated that it is included in the class. Ceramic tools are also available for $12 per kit. Please inquire about purchasing supplies at the Customer Service Center. Unless indicated, most courses are designed to permit students to continue from previous sessions. New students are always welcome!

Cafe 38660 - Experimental Art Studio for Teens (ages 12-17)
Calling all teens! Explore the cutting-edge world of contemporary art with your peers in this cafe-style studio class. "Barrista" Jeanne Grossetti (local artist and curator of contemporary art) will serve up freshly brewed projects that blend photo, video, new media and site-specific installation, with a shot of the written/spoken word. Previous experience is not necessary - just an open mind! The cafe opens on September 1.

This structured class teaches basic drawing skills, working from still lifes, models and photographs. Students focus on learning how to plan, position, proportion and practice line and shading techniques. Experiment with multiple media such as pencil, charcoal, paints and any more. Attain a broader understanding of how light and shadows define 3-dimentional objects and how to place them in an atmosphere. Experimentation is encouraged. Class tuition includes model fee. Private Visual Art Instruction

Private instruction in visual art is available. Visual Art classes at The Fine Arts Association are designed to provide students with a balanced and progressive instruction in all art media. Individual instruction should be viewed as a supplement to regular art classes, not as a substitute.
