Jodi B. Dobos, MT-BC Bio
Jodi grew up in a family of musicians, By school age, Jodi was taking piano and started in the school strings program in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The program was unusual for the small southern college town and grew to be competitive statewide. In high school, she was concertmaster of a 90-piece orchestra. Despite being recruited as an education major on violin, Jodi chose to attend Baldwin Wallace Conservatory as a voice performance major. There she performed in opera and musicals. She was part of the vocal jazz ensemble formed during her years attending. During summers, Jodi performed at the Farmhouse Inn, in Blowing Rock, North Carolina. She married after college and settled in Cleveland, Ohio. While raising a family, Jodi taught voice lessons and violin at Mitchells School of Music in Parma, Ohio. Later, she was an artist in residence at Cleveland Magnet School of the Arts and taught elementary strings. Jodi continued to study voice with several voice teachers in the Cleveland area including Phyllis Spears at FAA and Beverly Rinaldi. Later she continued to explore other kinds of music, including jazz. Jackie Warren, local jazz pianist, was her mentor. After some time away from academics, she received a BA in Psychology, and shortly after, a Post-Baccalaureate in Music Therapy from Cleveland State University. She interned back in the mountains of North Carolina and continued to work in Hospice for Pathways, Vitas, and Harmony Hospice. Jodi is an original member of Rob Duskey and the Rounders, and currently is in Rustbelt Riviera, and the FM Project ( a Steely Dan tribute band). She enjoys going to jazz jams and performing with friends in the Cleveland music scene. She has worked as a studio musician over the years as well. A highlight, in more recent years was a jazz ensemble performance at Nightgown, at the culmination of Janis Siegel’s (Manhattan Transfer) artist in residence at Cuyahoga Community College. Jodi feels fortunate that music is the mode in which she works and plays, and connects her to community.Jodi
