Elementary School Theatre Classes

Parents/guardians of preschool aged classes (below kindergarten age) are requested to stay onsite during classes. Please be in proximity to the classroom space in order to assist your child with toileting needs and/or need of additional support.

Theatre Arts Experience Jr. - The Little Mermaid! (ages 6-9 and ages 9-12)Choose one session by age.
Does your child love to sing and act? Do they love the tale of Disney's The Little Mermaid? Students develop their skills on stage while celebrating the beloved scenes and songs of Fine Arts' holiday season show. The session culminates with a Sharing Day on the last day of class AND includes one child and one adult ticket voucher to attend the Fine Arts' holiday production.

Wee Wizard of Oz (ages 6-9)
Follow the yellow brick road as we join Dorothy, the Tin Man, Scarecrow, the Lion, Toto, Glinda and the Wicked Witch through several great Oz adventures. Through vocal exercises, theatre games, blocking, and character building, you'll have more heart, brains and courage than you ever dreamed possible. Your family and friends will shout, there is no place like home! on Sharing Day, which will be held in the Main Gallery on the last day of class.

Afterschool Drama Club (ages 8-13)
Hey Kids! Looking for creative fun after school? Have you always wanted to be in a play? This is your opportunity! This fall, the afterschool drama club takes on a silly, sassy and fun set of fairy tales as they present What Happened After Once Upon a Time? This class is open to all levels of experience3, but students need to have a commitment to attending weekly class due to the effort in working towards culminating performance. Cast size is limited to 18, so register early and be ready to learn those lines and get ready to sine on stage! Class culminates with the show: Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 5:00 pm in the Corning Auditorium.

Dance for Musical Theatre I (ages 9-12)
Do you love musical theatre? Want to build your skills in dance to support your performing? This is your opportunity! Work with choreographer, director and Dance faculty member Lisa-Marie French to gain and hone your dancing skills for the next time you take the stage! Class requirements: tap and jazz shoes. Dress appropriate for movement.

Theatre Improv for Young Actors (ages 9-11)
Come discover the exciting world of theatre improvisation, where we make up the scenes as we go along and anything goes! A great introduction to the art of theatre. Students learn how to create instant scenes and stories that stretch the imagination and boost confidence on stage. The final class is an improv show Sharing Day for family and friends in the Main Gallery.

Advanced Prep for Young Actors (ages 9-11) New students welcome by audition or teacher recommendation.
This class is perfect for the experienced acting student who is looking for a challenging and supportive theatre experience. Expand your theatre knowledge and skills through scene work, vocal and movement exercises and improvisation. Consistent attendance is expected and all students are required to participate in the Sharing Day performance for family and friends on the last day of class in the Corning Auditorium.
